Toronto, Canada – Kinectrics, an independent, third-party engineering and testing firm providing services to the global energy and utility industries, is pleased to announce the signing of an MoU with KEPCO Research Institute (KEPRI). The MoU will explore research opportunities related to determining the behavior of new types of conductors and accessories meant to build the next generation of power lines in Korea, Canada and across the globe.
This collaboration will take advantage of KEPRI and Kinectrics’ extensive testing experience and understanding of the behavior and performance of overhead transmission lines. Kinectrics has a robust set of testing capabilities in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) space, which includes state-of-the-art laboratories for type testing, design tests and R&D testing on overhead transmission lines that provides unique and innovative services to clients. The insights gained from these tests are imperative for utilities to ensure that overhead electricity transmission line components perform as designed over their lifetime by characterizing long- and short-term behaviors and identifying any design weaknesses prior to installation.
This exciting MoU will drive research and innovation in the testing and evaluation of overhead lines in the field of transmission and distribution. With this collaboration, we will be able to leverage Kinectrics mechanical testing experience, as well as our testing facilities and capabilities to assist KEPRI with successfully executing a new approach to overhead transmission line construction and installation.
Embarking on this MoU will deliver valuable insights and a stronger, holistic, understanding of overhead conductors. We look forward to gaining practical information on testing outcomes, including stress-strain characteristics and conductor elongation, to see how these results are impacted by a variety of factors.
